Welcome

Our club’s aim is to foster an interest in and the enjoyment of photography.  We do this through competitions, workshops, lectures, outings and meetings with other camera clubs.

Our members are all keen amateur photographers. Their photographic interests may vary – landscape, portraiture, sporting, abstract, etc.,  but they all share a passion for capturing great images, improving their skills and techniques and sharing their knowledge and experiences with other members.  Some examples of our members’ recent photos appear on this page.

2020 Australian Cup

The judging for the 2020 Australian Cup has been finalized and the committee is ready to announce the winners! You and your club members are invited to attend a special awards night via ZOOM on Friday 24th July 7pm EST to be there when we unveil the 2020 Australian Cup winner along with all the other awards. The battle was fierce this year and the judges had a difficult task in choosing the winners and you’ll see those top images during night. When Friday Jul 24, 2020 at 6.45pm for a 7pm EST startIt is suggested that you register and download the (small) zoom install prior to the start of the meeting.
You will need
Speakers and a microphone.
Ones built into your laptop will be ok if you have a quiet place to do the session but headsets with a mic will be better.
Zoom works on Windows or Mac, and can also work on tablet or mobile phone (with the zoom app installed).
Zoom Registration and Install
*For security purposes please ensure you use the correct link to visit the Zoom website when you register. https://www.zoom.us/
(A number of fake sites have sprung up due to Zoom’s increased popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, these sites can pose a security threat to your computer)

Invitation
You are invited to a Zoom meeting.
When: Jul 24, 2020 07:00 PM Brisbane (EST)

https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEkd-irrDMtEtHbFLVCWzyF1LXs2bgcUitE

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

During the Meeting

Use the MUTE button throughout the meeting. When you want to say something to the group(ask questions), PRESS THE SPACEBAR while you speak. When you release the spacebar, it will mute again. (Using the mute button in the Zoom video window).
This is important so that noise…phone calls, background noise, mic feedback…doesn’t distract the speaker.

Tuesday’s Competition Night

This month seems to have flown by and we’re back for another competition on Tuesday night from 7:30. This month’s theme is Australian Landscapes. Click on the link below for access to the Zoom meeting.

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85283924446?pwd=ZDVvLy9tYnV6RXo5Q3k3RjJicFhuQT09

This month we are having a fancy dress theme so dress up in a costume or just put a colander on your head. Be creative.

Congratulations to Louise Russell who has a macro image accepted for the Australian Photographic Society ADPA awards!

The results of the survey from last month have been finalised and the result is that we will return to our regular meetings in September. This depends upon what else may happen in the next two months with further Covid 19 restrictions. The committee will continue to meet monthly to discuss what we need to do.

Don’t forget to dress up for tomorrow night. Wear a suit or a fancy dress, that Batman costume that you have for special occasions or even a work uniform. You know it’s important. It’s in bold.

See you at the meeting,

July Update

G’day all.

Coming up in July we have another Zoom Club Meeting. This months theme is Australian Landscapes. We may not have gone far in the last few months but I’m sure we all have some images that we could dust off for this comp.

Once again we are limited to 3 images in total with a maximum of 2 in each category.

It has been great to see more people entering in our monthly competitions and next month we are going to have a fancy dress them for our Zoom meeting.

Our fun competition for June closes on Tuesday, so it’s not too late to upload images for Autumn Colour, Weather and Freedom. Remember that it is one image per category. Next month we get to judge each other’s images by giving them a score between 1 and 5. To do that, we need to score every image (including our own).

Next month our fun competition theme is still life.

Don’t forget the survey to let us know when you want the club to return to it’s regular meetings. Thanks if you have filled it out already but there are still a number who haven’t. (Here’s a bit from the previous email.)

Hopefully, with the pandemic playing out the way it is in NSW, things will be better in a couple of months.

Here are some things that we will need to consider with the hall hire:

  1. We will fit. We have less in our club than the maximum number, and to be honest, not all of us turn up anyway.
  2. We will need to bring our own cups for a cuppa. We will need to bring our own snack too if we want one.
  3. We will need to wipe tables and chairs after we use them. This includes toilet seats.
  4. We’ll need to wear gloves when we put up the stands and take them down.
  5. Please bear in mind that things could change drastically and we need to change our plans again and push the date further back. However, while things are looking positive, we do want to plan on moving forward.

One last piece of advice, don’t think too long. You know the options, go with what you are feeling. We want to know what you are thinking, otherwise, we wouldn’t be sending the survey.

Please click on the link below. It should take less than a minute.

Something else that we need to consider: We don’t have the facility to hold a Zoom meeting with a regular meeting. It is one or the other. However, if you are unable to attend, you can still enter your images.

That’s all for now.

It’s a survey!

G’day all,

To help us plan for future meetings we feel that we need to send out a survey.

From the thumbs up and down we asked for at the last meeting, we know July is not a popular option. So when? We have given you two choices. August and September.

Hopefully, with the pandemic playing out the way it is in NSW, things will be better in a couple of months.

Here are some things that we will need to consider with the hall hire:

  1. We will fit. We have less in our club than the maximum number, and to be honest, not all of us turn up anyway.

Look out for another email coming in the next couple of days for the July update.

June Update

G’day all,

My apologise for sending this out a little later than I had hoped.

This long weekend brings about end to some of our current restrictions. However, at the moment and despite our club being less than 50 people, the Mt Colah Community Centre is still closed by Hornsby Council until at least July. As a result, we are still meeting via Zoom for at the very least June. The committee will continue to meet on a monthly basis to work out what happens next, particularly as we don’t know what Hornsby Council has planned. They are most likely waiting on advice themselves.

In the meantime, don’t forget that this month’s competition is open. You can enter up to 3 images in the different categories but no more than 2 images in any category. We found that this helped with the flow of the competition last meeting and lead to a boost of people trying their hand at monochrome images.

Our original competition plans for this month was for our photo rally to be judged. We still hope to hold the photo rally later in the year but for now our friendly, just for fun, comp for June will fill this void.

We have three categories this month instead of one: Freedom, Autumn, and Weather. You may upload one image in each category and these will be open for scoring by club members when the competition closes. We will give you more information about that later.

Finally, if you want to try your hand at astrophotography, this is the best time of year to give it a go as the galactic centre point rises in the east at a decent time of the evening. Just watch out for full moons, like we have now, as the light blocks out most of the stars.

Remember to keep learning, creating and sharing photography.
