Welcome

Our club’s aim is to foster an interest in and the enjoyment of photography.  We do this through competitions, workshops, lectures, outings and meetings with other camera clubs.

Our members are all keen amateur photographers. Their photographic interests may vary – landscape, portraiture, sporting, abstract, etc.,  but they all share a passion for capturing great images, improving their skills and techniques and sharing their knowledge and experiences with other members.  Some examples of our members’ recent photos appear on this page.

Here is some news.

The good news is that we have a plan to return to face to face meetings in November. Our October meeting will still be online and our judge will be Peta Ward.

When we return, there will be some rules that we need to follow for Hornsby Council to allow us to hire the hall.

Rule 1: Attendees must be double vaxed and will need to show a certificate of proof.

Rule 2: Everyone needs to sign in using the QR code. We will need everyone to come just a little early so that we can check these things.

Rule 3: Everyone needs to wear masks.

Rule 4: We need to wipe down a lot of stuff. We will need some people to volunteer to help us with that.

Rule 5: We can’t dilly dally when the meeting is over. (Actually, I’m not sure if that’s a council rule or not, I was told to tell people that we can’t dilly dally outside after the meeting.)

Please remember that these are Council rules and part of our condition of hire for November only. We need to follow them. Please let me know if you will be unable to attend as we may be able to set up a video link via Zoom.

Photo of the Year Competition

November is our annual Photo of the Year Competition. In this competition we re-enter images from the current year to see who will grab the top spot.

When submitting your images, please remember that they must be submitted in the same category again, there is no switching between categories. We have maintained our categories of Colour Prints, Mono Prints, Small Prints and Digitally Projected Images throughout the year so hopefully there should be no confusion.

The Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Meeting will be held on 30th November at 7:30 at the Mount Colah Community Centre. There will be a presentation as well but the Christmas Party element will be postponed to an event later, in the new year. Please come to the AGM if you are able with the restrictions. It is your club and it is a good opportunity to hear what is planned.

I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

July Meeting Update

G’day all,

The committee met tonight to talk about this month’s competition. There is a monumental change. Your images must be in by 5 pm Saturday afternoon.

Submit your four images as the usual into the normal categories and they will be judged in these categories. However, all submissions must be done by 5 pm on Saturday.

We are also back on Zoom. A link will be emailed to you on Monday evening.

At the moment all outings are cancelled and we are looking into an alternative for the Pittwater Interclub.

One final important change is that all submissions must be done by 5 pm on Saturday.

Regards,

Tom.

Photo Rally Presentation

G’day all,

Unfortunately, Tuesday night’s presentation will be on Zoom and not at the hall. While free publicity is great, having our club named by the NSW Chief Medical Officer might not work in our favour. We also have members who are in lockdown as they work or have been to certain areas of Sydney.

I will send out the link on Monday night.

For this to happen, you need a Zoom account as the link will not work without it. Please set this up beforehand.

If you already have an account but you haven’t used it for a while, log in up to 10 minutes before the meeting to download updates. I got caught by this recently.

After the photo rally judging there will be a presentation by John Sidebotham.

Don’t forget coming up we have the astro photography night on the 17th July. We have have had to change the date. The location is most likely to be Palm Beach/Barranjoey and we have looked at a tide chart this time.

Hope to see you on Tuesday night,

Tom.

Changes Are Afoot

G’day all,

At the last committee meeting we made some changes to how we run our competition.

Many of us have joined the camera club to meet and talk to other photographers but we have found that this is just not happening. Every month, we have over 110 entries and realistically 120 minutes for judging and feedback and no time for anything else. Quite often people are still talking on the street up to half an hour after we have closed the door on the hall.

Starting with the June competition night we will have a minimum of 15 minutes to catch up with others. It doesn’t sound like much but it is more than we have now.

So that we can make this happen, from the June competition we are reducing the number of entries per person to four. You may enter up to two images in one category.

Hopefully, this will give us more time to catch up and swap ideas.

We will also be reintroducing tea and coffee during the break. We’ll bring the tea, coffee, milk and sugar but you will need to bring your own mug.

Don’t forget that we have the Photo Rally coming up on 5th June. More details are yet to come. In previous years this has been a fantastic event, producing great times and fine images. We hope to see you there.

As one of my photographic heroes says, ‘You keep shooting.’
