Welcome

Our club’s aim is to foster an interest in and the enjoyment of photography.  We do this through competitions, workshops, lectures, outings and meetings with other camera clubs.

Our members are all keen amateur photographers. Their photographic interests may vary – landscape, portraiture, sporting, abstract, etc.,  but they all share a passion for capturing great images, improving their skills and techniques and sharing their knowledge and experiences with other members.  Some examples of our members’ recent photos appear on this page.

Sport Photography Opportunity

Sean, our old president has reached out to us to give the club an opportunity to practice some sports photography. Here’s his letter:

“I’m part of the coaching squad in Hornsby Heights Football Club, each
year we have a Female Football Festival, designed to showcase and expand
female participation in football. I’m involved in organising the day
which is happening on Sunday May 22nd.

For many years I’ve been the primary photographer and may be again this
year; however I would love to extend an invite to members who have an
interest in sports photography, or just photography, that may wish to
get some practice in. The event runs from 9am until approx 4:30pm –
games will run across 5 fields during this period. No expectation of
someone to be there all day – even though I usually am when I am the
only photographer.”

If you are interested, let me know and I can put you in contact with Sean.

Landscape and Aerial Photography Presentation Tuesday 5th April 7:30pm

Join us online on 5th April for our next presentation.

Landscape and Aerial Photography” is an educational and engaging presentation by Internationally-acclaimed landscape photographer Mieke Boynton. In 2008, Mieke travelled to the rugged and remote Kimberley region of Western Australia and promptly fell in love with the landscape. She took up photography as a means to share her amazement with family and friends, and quickly caught the photography “bug.” Mieke became a full time professional photographer in 2018 and that same year, was named “Victorian Travel Photographer of the Year” by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography. In 2019, she was awarded the title of AIPP Victorian Landscape Photographer of the Year. She is the first Australian and first woman ever to win the renowned Epson International Pano Awards, with three of her abstract aerial photographs receiving Gold Awards. In 2021, she achieved her Masters distinction with the prestigious Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP) – one of only 5 successful applicants world-wide. Mieke now lives in the beautiful alpine township of Bright in Victoria where she and her photographer partner Matt Palmer run the “Alpine Light” photography gallery. Her “Landscape and Aerial Photography” presentation begins with a very brief explanation of her background, and then – through audience interaction – highlights a series of maximum-impact elements of Landscape Photography in an engaging and entertaining way. The advice given is valuable for photographers at all levels. She also presents a selection of her aerial photographs and provides some useful advice for members if they wish to try their hand at this genre. There are plenty of opportunities for discussion and questions too!  www.miekeboynton.com

Movember

G’day all,

As mentioned at last weeks competition night, two of our club members are raising money for Movember. Tom and Tim both work at the same place. One of the other blokes who works there has a father who suffered from prostate cancer. The good news is that the dad is a lot better. Tom and Tim’s workmate thought that it would be a good to ask the other blokes at work to grow a mo and raise money. Tom, who is a top bloke, and Tim, a fine outstanding gentleman, jumped at the idea and so did the other chaps – especially those who have pre-existing mos.

If you can spare a few dollars for a good cause we’d appreciate a contribution to our Movember team. Just click on either of the links below. You don’t need to donate to both of us as a donation to either one goes towards Team Wideview – our Movember work crew.

Tuesday 16th November Meeting

It’s exciting to be back but when we return on Tuesday night, there will be some rules that we need to follow for Hornsby Council to allow us to hire the hall.

Rule 1: Attendees must be double vaxed and will need to show a certificate of proof.

Rule 2: Everyone needs to sign in using the QR code. We will need everyone to come just a little early so that we can check these things.

Rule 3: Everyone needs to wear masks.

Rule 4: We need to wipe down a lot of stuff. We will need some people to volunteer to help us with that.

Rule 5: We can’t dilly dally when the meeting is over. (Actually, I’m not sure if that’s a council rule or not, I was told to tell people that we can’t dilly dally outside after the meeting.)

Please remember that these are Council rules and part of our condition of hire for November only. We need to follow them. Please let me know if you will be unable to attend as we may be able to set up a video link via Zoom.

Want a cuppa at the meeting?

We’ll bring the tea and coffee and light milk. You’ll need to bring your own mug or teacup if you’re in to fine China cups.

The Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Meeting will be held on 30th November at 7:30 at the Mount Colah Community Centre. There will be a presentation as well but the Christmas Party element will be postponed to an event later, in the new year. Please come to the AGM if you are able with the restrictions. It is your club and it is a good opportunity to hear what is planned.

I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.
