Welcome

Our club’s aim is to foster an interest in and the enjoyment of photography.  We do this through competitions, workshops, lectures, outings and meetings with other camera clubs.

Our members are all keen amateur photographers. Their photographic interests may vary – landscape, portraiture, sporting, abstract, etc.,  but they all share a passion for capturing great images, improving their skills and techniques and sharing their knowledge and experiences with other members.  Some examples of our members’ recent photos appear on this page.

Dear Members,

Tomorrow night at 7:30pm, please join us for the battle of the camera clubs with HHCC v Pittwater in our annual Interclub competition.

As we are hosting this year, we ask that our members please bring a plate of food to share. And so we can keep track of who is bringing what, please send a quick message to Elaine at elaine.holliday@ymail.com to let her know what you’re able to bring. Every plate helps.

Photojournalism “Human interest” – Rules and examples

Dear Members,

October’s club competition Photojournalism – “Human Interest” will be here before we know it.

Just like our Nature competition, Photojournalism – “Human interest” has it’s own set of guidelines to follow. It’s also important to note that “Photojournalism” and Photojournalism – “Human interest” are two different categories. So to avoid disappointment on competition night we suggest you take a minute to read the attached guidelines of this competition by clicking here.

You will also find some great examples of Photojournalism “Human interest” by Clicking here

We look forward to seeing what you’ve captured on Tuesday 17th October.

This Tuesday’s Interactive Workshop

Dear Members,

Have you ever wondered why some images seem to do well in competition and others don’t?
Successful images always create a connection with the viewer.
Come along and have a conversation about how to create images that create connection. Images that create connection always have certain characteristics that range from technical qualities, lighting and presentation, good composition, creativity, narrative and most importantly, impact.
Learning how to improve your visual literacy so you recognise these elements, will help you learn how to choose images for competition.

What to bring

Please bring along up to two PRINTS that you would like feedback on. (Small prints are acceptable and matting is not required).

What’s happening on the night

  1. An interactive presentation on understanding the fundamentals of “What makes a competition Image” and how we can all achieve it.
  2. We will then break into a number of small groups and together offer feedback on the strong points of our images and what we feel might help take them to that next level, if anything at all.
  3. Lastly we will come together again with a digital display of images and see some before and after examples.

We do hope you can join us for this fun interactive evening.

We ask that all members please bring along up to two PRINTS that you would like feedback on. (Small prints are acceptable and matting is not required).

The evening will run as follows –

Photo Rally submission announcement

Dear members,

The question was raised, if our images entered in this years Photo Rally (regardless of whether they received an award or not) can be re-submitted again throughout this year or following years, as photo rally images have been allowed in the past. Although photo rally was our monthly competition this year, they were not a part of the monthly point score, therefore no points were awarded.

The committee has discussed this further and we feel that the following is the best outcome.

  1. Photo Rally images (awarded or otherwise) can be re-submitted in competition either this year or later, as they were not eligible for points.
  2. Any images submitted on the Photo Rally night can be submitted, directly into Photo of the Year without needing to re-submit in the coming monthly competitions. Set subject KISS would qualify for – Colour Prints, Think in monochrome – Mono Prints and the two digitals subjects – Digital.

In Summary, you can enter your photo rally images directly in the POY in the above mentioned sections, or you can re-submit in future competitions.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact a member of your committee.

Regards

Your Committee.
