Welcome

Our club’s aim is to foster an interest in and the enjoyment of photography.  We do this through competitions, workshops, lectures, outings and meetings with other camera clubs.

Our members are all keen amateur photographers. Their photographic interests may vary – landscape, portraiture, sporting, abstract, etc.,  but they all share a passion for capturing great images, improving their skills and techniques and sharing their knowledge and experiences with other members.  Some examples of our members’ recent photos appear on this page.

HHCC Presentation – Fate or Destiny

Fate or Destiny: Living Life with Passion and Finding Your Why
with Nilmini De Silva

Next Tuesday 31st May, our club member Nilmini De Silva will share with us some of the stories behind the images in her book, Fate or Destiny: Living Life with Passion. Fate or Destiny is a collection of photos and stories that aim to inspire people to make conscious choices in life. Nilmini launched this photo exhibition together with her photo book at the Hornsby Library in 2014 which then travelled to many venues around NSW.

If you make it on Tuesday, Nil has promised you will get a free copy of her book. This exhibition was created after Nilmini completed two important journeys. The first was a solo journey where she travelled and volunteered around the world for a year in her quest to rediscover happiness, reinvent herself and also complete her goal of spending quality time on every continent before turning 50.

The goal was accomplished with her arrival in Antarctica for Christmas in 2010 after being on the road for much of that year. The second journey was undertaken with her partner Steven Liaros in 2013, when they spent 6 months in Europe and Sri Lanka, volunteering in intentional communities and eco-villages to better understand what drove people to think and live differently. In her photo book Nilmini raises questions on many aspects of life that are often taken for granted and challenges her audience to examine life more carefully. Her photography is inspired by her love for the natural environment and her desire to share stories of the extraordinary people she has met.

Nilmini is an Engineer (Water Management) and Director of the Town Planning Consultancy she runs with her partner Steven Liaros. In her spare time, she is a Documentary Photographer who specialise in using images and words to highlight the social issues she cares about. She has always loved writing but discovered her passion for photography while volunteering as a Conservation Photographer in South Africa during her 2010 solo year of travel while on a sabbatical from her then local government job. Nil
is now an internationally awarded photographer with National and International Photography Honours. Her most recent claims to fame is that she placed in the Top 20 of the Art Category of Australasia’s Top Emerging Photographer 2022 (Capture Magazine) and in the Top 20 Aerial Category
of Photographer of the Year 2021 (Australian Photography Magazine).

You can find more info on her website or follow her on social media:

HHCC – 2022 Photo Rally

STOP PRESS – IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN – 7th MAY 2022 PHOTO RALLY

As this is our main outing of the year, we hope you’ve put it in your diaries and that most of our members will join us for our biggest social event of the year.

Hi Everyone,

It’s that time of year again and we are heading to Barangaroo, The Rocks and Darling Harbour (see map attached) where there are some amazing photo opportunities! And the weather looks good too!! We’ve expanded the area this year as most of us haven’t had many opportunities since
covid hit to get out and about in the city with our cameras. Details are attached, please see our flyer.

The brief will be given out on Saturday morning when we meet at 10.30am,
those that can’t make it, there will be an email sent out as well after 11 a.m.
It is important that anyone attending send an email with their phone number just in case any details change, to elaine.holliday@ymail.com or
secretaryhornsbyheightscameraclub@outlook.com, or you can text or call so that I know who is coming. I have made a WhatsApp Group so we are able to connect with each other.

Don’t worry if you don’t have WhatsApp as we can communicate by text. Anyone who has already let me know they are coming doesn’t need to let me know again.

See you on Saturday.
Elaine

HHCC – Printer to a new home…

Hi Members,

A previous club member, Amanda Robertson, has a printer she is looking to give away. Details below. Amanda has provided her number at the bottom if you are interested….

The reason I’m contacting you is that I have a canon printer PRO-100S plus a whole bunch of ink cartridges and photographic paper that I’m looking to give away.   The canon printer won’t connect to my Apple and so I haven’t been able to use it, we are moving to the country and I’m having a big clean out.

Would anyone at the club be interested in taking these off my hands.  I am in Warrawee and they can be picked up at anytime.  Alternatively if you have a club meeting coming up soon, I could arrange to drop them into the club.

Best wishes

Amanda Robertson
