HHCC – Outing Gallery
Hi All,
It was great to see so many people out at our first members outing of 2019. Many thanks again to Marion for hosting and providing the many tips and tricks to improve our nature photography!
I’ve now added a members only photo gallery which is available from the home page of the site. Look for the “Outings Gallery” button on the right hand menu once you are logged in. You’ll find a few pictures from our outing today.
Best,
Dave

HHCC – Photo Upload Tutorial
Hi Members,
A few of you may have missed it but the folks who run the myphotoclub website have produced some handy videos to guide us around the new site. One of these provides a step-by-step guide on how to upload your photos to a competition. You can find the link here.
Also, going forward you do not have to use the special naming convention that was created for naming your photo files. The new website has functionality that removes the need for this. When you upload a photo just type in the title field the artistic name you would like to give your image.
Best,
Dave

HHCC – Nature Definition
Hi Members,
There is an updated nature definition which has been published by FCC. We thought it would be a useful reference for our nature competition.
You will find the document here.

HHCC – Warriewood Wetlands – Event Details Change
Dear Members,
There has been a small change to the meeting place for the Warriewood Wetlands outing on the 10th March. Revised details are below:
REVISED DETAILS FOR BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY OUTING, MARCH 10th, WARRIEWOOD WETLANDS
LEADER: MARION ANSTIS
PLEASE LET MARION KNOW BY TEXT OR EMAIL by Saturday 9th March if you are coming.
MEETING TIME AND PLACE: Venue for the morning has now been changed to just the Warriewood Wetlands area, as Long Reef is a bit harder to get close enough to birds, and parking is $10 an hour!!
So, we will meet at Flower Power nursery (parking available in grounds) at 7 am on March 10. Google maps will show you this, but the address is 22 Macpherson St, Warriewood. I will point out a few tips about settings that may help you get started if you haven’t had much practice photographing birds.
From there we have a morning stroll to visit three small lakes where we hope to see various water birds, possibly Royal Spoonbill, White-face heron, White-necked heron, ducks, coots, moorhens etc. There may be an occasional bird of prey overhead.
After we have explored the three lakes in this area, we will drive to another entrance to the wetlands at Katoa Close off Garden St (parking hopefully available, and free). If the car parking area is full, there is a shopping centre with free parking not too far away, or perhaps street parking nearby.
When we are all together again, we will enter the wetlands and stroll along the boardwalk and forest track where we should see various water birds again, including perhaps Australasian Darters, and even perhaps a Grey Goshawk that has been seen in the area. There are a number of smaller forest birds including thornbills, scrub wrens, superb wrens, pardalotes etc., bell miners are common, and there are whipbirds there. There is also a chance we may come across an Azure Kingfisher. There are a number of butterflies, dragonflies etc. you can practise on too!
When we return, there are picnic tables there, so you may bring some morning tea.
After a break, we will head to another part of the walking trails starting alongside the shopping centre area and walking in a big loop around the wetlands until we return to our cars in Garden St or nearby. Armed with a packed lunch you can have it there or head to the shopping centre nearby after we finish where there is a food court.
WHAT TO BRING/WEAR
-
- SLR camera body and tele lens – minimum 200mm, but 300mm or longer is better. Zoom lenses e.g. 70-300mm are fine as well. You can also use a compact zoom camera with inbuilt long zoom if you prefer, but for birds in flight an SLR shutter is better.
-
- Hat, sunscreen, good walking boots, sunglasses, water bottle, a light long-sleeved shirt if weather is still warm, binoculars if desired.
-
- Spare battery and card for camera
- Food and drink.

HHCC – February Competition Cut off – 5pm this Sunday!
Hi Members,
Just a quick reminder that the close off for our February competition is this Sunday at 5pm. We have to close off to allow adequate time to prepare for the meeting on Tuesday evening. As such it is not possible to re-open a competition post the close off. I would encourage everyone who has yet to upload their photos to attempt this early should you encounter any issues. You’ll find specific instructions on how to do the upload in an earlier post. Just login and scroll down on the home page of the website to find the relevant entry. Also, Tom recently sent out a note regarding how to name your image files.
If you have any questions please drop through an email. See you all next Tuesday.
Best,
Dave

HHCC – A new website look and feel coming soon
Hi All,
I wanted to drop you all a quick note to let you know that behind the scenes MyPhotoclub has been busy getting a new version 2.0 of the website ready. This will launch in February this year and will change the look and feel of the website somewhat. Whilst I know our club is new to the existing website, this work has been going on for some time. You’ll notice a new banner on our home page just beneath the logo that will lead you to some short videos by Colin Woods – the MyPhotoclub administrator. These will give you an overview of the changes that are being implemented. An important point is that we aren’t losing any functionality and the improvements are to add new functions and improve the look and feel.
Also, a big thank you to all of you who have made suggestions for changes to the website. I’ve been compiling these and will pass back to MyPhotoclub for considerations.
Best,
Dave
