Welcome

Our club’s aim is to foster an interest in and the enjoyment of photography.  We do this through competitions, workshops, lectures, outings and meetings with other camera clubs.

Our members are all keen amateur photographers. Their photographic interests may vary – landscape, portraiture, sporting, abstract, etc.,  but they all share a passion for capturing great images, improving their skills and techniques and sharing their knowledge and experiences with other members.  Some examples of our members’ recent photos appear on this page.

Would you like to improve your photography?

Our Club meets monthly in a friendly, informal atmosphere.  If you’d like to join – or just see how we operate – come along to one of our meetings. We meet at 7.30pm on the 3rd and 5th Tuesday of each month at the Mount Colah Community Centre, Pierre Close, Mount Colah.

HHCC – June Fun Comp

Hi All,

There was a slight configuration issue with our fun competition for June which is allowing people to load more than 1 image per section. If you could please restrict the number of photos to 1 in each section that would be appreciated. You’ll all get a chance to judge other members photos at the end of the month as per Tom’s recent note.

Thanks,

Dave

June Update

G’day all,

My apologise for sending this out a little later than I had hoped.

This long weekend brings about end to some of our current restrictions. However, at the moment and despite our club being less than 50 people, the Mt Colah Community Centre is still closed by Hornsby Council until at least July. As a result, we are still meeting via Zoom for at the very least June. The committee will continue to meet on a monthly basis to work out what happens next, particularly as we don’t know what Hornsby Council has planned. They are most likely waiting on advice themselves.

In the meantime, don’t forget that this month’s competition is open. You can enter up to 3 images in the different categories but no more than 2 images in any category. We found that this helped with the flow of the competition last meeting and lead to a boost of people trying their hand at monochrome images.

Our original competition plans for this month was for our photo rally to be judged. We still hope to hold the photo rally later in the year but for now our friendly, just for fun, comp for June will fill this void.

We have three categories this month instead of one: Freedom, Autumn, and Weather. You may upload one image in each category and these will be open for scoring by club members when the competition closes. We will give you more information about that later.

Finally, if you want to try your hand at astrophotography, this is the best time of year to give it a go as the galactic centre point rises in the east at a decent time of the evening. Just watch out for full moons, like we have now, as the light blocks out most of the stars.

Remember to keep learning, creating and sharing photography.

HHCC – Competition Rules Reminder

Hi Members,

We wanted to provide a quick reminder of a one specific submission rule around competitions. This relates to the maximum number of pictures in each category. At present submissions are restricted to a total of 3 images overall in a competition with a maximum of 2 images in any one category – Digital Colour, Mono, Digital Small Print, etc.

Unfortunately, the website does not restrict this in situations where we have a competition that includes both set subject and open images. As such you’ll need to remember how many images you are uploading in each category if you want to submit in both set subject and open.

We look forward to seeing you all next Tuesday online!

HHCC – Critique Corner and Comments

Hi Members,

We hope everyone is staying safe and sound during the current restrictions. We have enjoyed seeing everyone online at our club events and as Tom mentioned in his post the turnout has been very good.

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to a new function which has been added to the Club website recently called Critique Corner. Quite simply, Critique Corner enables you to submit a photo online for review and assistance by other members in our club. This is a good way of enabling constructive feedback by others on your images which you may want to enter into a competition or simply see how it might be improved.

You may have seen me submit a photo last month using this function, and I received many helpful and thoughtful tips on how I could improve the image. Thanks again to all of you who commented. The collective knowledge in the club is something worth tapping in to!

The function is available within the Members menu option on the right side of the home page after you have logged in. You’ll see the blue Critique Corner button towards the top of the screen. In the following screen select the green button to the right to add or amend entries. When you upload a photo it is worth adding some text to indicate what sort of help you would like with the photo.

Note that Critique Corner is independent of any of our competitions. When someone comments you’ll receive an email notification.

Also, it is important to help others too so I would encourage you to login and where possible provide others with feedback requested on their images. This is how everyone improves their photography. For those of you not aware, you can also comment on photos in our competitions once they have been published so I would encourage members to have a go at this too!

Best,

Dave

News From the Committee

Dear Members,

Thanks to everybody who attended the last competition night online. The first virtual meeting saw the most people enter our monthly competition that we have had for a long time.

As we said earlier, the committee is continuing to meet every month to see how we can improve the way we hold our meetings.

It was decided to keep the number of entries to three images per person. However, it was felt that the colour images went for too long. To counter this, we are limiting the number of images in each category to a maximum of two images. It’s in bold so you’ll notice the change.

This gives us a good opportunity to experiment with black and white images if you haven’t delved into this area before.

We will also schedule a 5 minute break after the colour images to stretch and maybe grab a cup of tea or coffee.

If you feel the need to ask a question during night you can raise your hand by pressing Alt + Y on the keyboard and awe can let you ask at an appropriate time.

Thursday is our last day for the Zoo Around Our House entries. Friday will be the start of Things with Wings. Be creative and upload your images. Remember this is just for fun.

Finally, we have postponed the Photo Rally. This is normally a well-attended event. Rather than cancelling, we want to still try and hold it when some restrictions are eased and health conditions are safe.

Remember to keep checking the website for updates.

Don’t forget to learn, create and share photography.
