Dear Members
This month we welcome a new judge to club in David Groundwater. He has sent us some information about himself and his photography, which he took up when he retired in 2011. Initially, he was capturing ‘happy snaps’ with a point and shoot camera while travelling overseas.
- Invested in a DSLR and commenced photography classes with Ray Williams as mentor/educator to raise the standard of his photography.
His Camera Club activity started at St Ives Camera Club, which
later morphed into Hornsby Camera Club. - He found a new home at Manly Camera Club and was
promoted (talked into becoming) to Treasurer. He enjoys the regular
competitions and critiques received to aid his growth in the art
of photography. His favourite genre is fine art architectural
photography. - Attended the FCC Judges Course in 2023 and became a fledgling judge in 2024. The highlight was being a member of the judging panel for the FCC 2024 Top Shot Competition.
He has thanked us for the invitation to judge our competition. He asks that we be aware that the comments he makes are from his point of view and experience and will probably differ from
others’. They are meant to identify the elements of the image
that meet competition standard and those that he thinks could be
improved. He is grateful for the opportunity to learn from viewing
our images and hopes that the members will also learn
something from his critiques. Please ask questions as they
arise and he is happy to discuss his critique with you afterwards.
David’s instagram is @davegroundy. We look forward to welcoming him on Tuesday night.
Thanks, Your Committee.
